Thursday, June 27, 2024, Grief Shock

Grief shock numbs me. It swells over me until it crashes, and my body convulses. The waves tumble out. I can’t process it all. Perhaps now it begins. Just thirty days ago today, my sister passed—my sweet, big sister. There were four of us girls then. Now, only three.

My world stands still today.
It didn’t end because life goes on.
All around,
business as usual.
“Hi! How are you?”
“It’s good to see you.”
I couldn’t answer my usual response.
“I’m good.”
So I smiled
because life goes on.
But my world stood still today.
