Hold Me Close…a lovely historical fiction by Margurite Martin Gray. What a delightful author! In Hold Me Close, Louis arrives in South Carolina from France to visit his aunt and uncle. He soon involves himself in the business but tries to remain neutral with rising political action. When he meets Elizabeth, things begin to change. Reading Hold Me Close brought back one of my favorite time periods.
I’d forgotten how much I loved the Pre-Revolutionary War era, and the author did a remarkable job of expounding on the French significance without ever making it feel like a history lesson. Through the developing characters I loved, Louis Lestarjette and Elizabeth, I felt a rush at the intrigue and possible danger. The rising action but beautiful description and narrative made me long to finish, and I’m excited that the series continues!
