My grandbaby, Olive June (my namesake), fights (literally) in the hospital, wanting to go home, but our hope holds fast. She has a bad case of the common cold, which almost always lands her in the hospital due to a rare metabolic condition. It’s not life-threatening, thanks to modern medicine. As long as her chunky (that’s a good thing with MCAD) three-year-old body heals as the Lord wills, she’ll weather this one out, too. When she becomes ill, she has a golden ticket to bypass the ER and is admitted straight to the metabolic specialist on staff at the Children’s Hospital.

Her older sisters, only four and six themselves, miss her no matter how much Grandma entertains. We paint and craft, hang out at the park, and pray a lot. My younger daughter, their Auntie, records their prayers and texts them to little Olive. Her Mommy plays the video in the hospital, and it makes all the nurses cry. Hope holds fast.
But these little girls want their Mommy, too, and Mommy, my daughter, hasn’t had a bath in four days as she sleeps on a hard bench next to her toddler’s bedside. And everyone misses Daddy, who is flying home early from a business trip. Family life is disrupted once again, but it brings us all together in prayer. Our family’s Pensive Posts Group Chat is buzzing with quips from Japan, Washington, and Southern California. We’re all spread out, but connected, praise the Lord! Hope holds fast.

By God’s grace, my husband and I make it to church, and every worship song has me wiping my eyes on this Lord’s Day. We’re all exhausted, but we are trusting the Lord for little Olive’s homecoming and thanking the Lord that her condition has not worsened. The prayers of our church family comfort us, too.
When our outstanding worship leader sings “There Will Be a Day” by Jeremy Camp, joy floods my soul, and I sing out with the congregation. Yes, this earth is not our home. What a world of bliss we have waiting for us on that day. The promised hope of Jesus Christ forever in eternity. Thank you, God! Take a listen to the song below.
But then I thought of many others who are also suffering today. How many are trusting for that day in heaven but hoping for one more day on earth with their loved ones? Conditions much more serious than our little Olive. We are blessed, but then sorrow gripped my heart. How many don’t have the hope of eternity? How tragic to have no hope, to have only today on earth to live for. Talk about hopelessness! Those who don’t know Jesus don’t know that there will be a day. A beautiful, glorious, wonderful, eternal day. That day is hope! Let’s share the good news, shall we? Share what a good, and perfect God we have. One who loved you so much, He gave up His only Son as a living sacrifice for you to spend eternity with Him! Keep your eyes on that day, we are. Hallelujah!

Praying for little Olive, she looks happy with her sister and you by her side. God has you , just keep on praying as we are also.
Thank you, Glenda. Prayers are the comfort and grace we always need. Little Olive is home!
Praying for your sweet grand baby!
