How many of us have strayed? God be praised if you haven’t! But all of us love family members and friends who have, and it’s heartbreaking. But returning to God is a sweet, life-changing moment in this heaven-bound journey on earth. I heard a pastor once say that when we backslide, it takes us the slide plus the climb to return to God. And our Holy Lord is not only there waiting for us, but when that decision is made, He’s pushing and pulling us the whole way. That’s our God. And sometimes, he supplies a mentor to help.
Consequently, I love the mentors in Ransomed Peace. Surprisingly, Lucy, Roxanne’s newfound friend, is one of them. Although she admits her faith failures, once she resolves to return to God, she takes Roxanne with her—the buddy system. You can read all about Roxanne and Lucy in Ransomed Peace. She’s one of my favorite characters and a Sunday-only Christian! But things change…
I know a Pastor and his wife who returned to God that way. They came to Christ through a faith-based rehab program. He and my husband roamed the streets as teens, getting into all sorts of trouble. The man went to prison for ten years, but he and my husband reconnected just a few years ago on FB. We were encouraged to learn that he also became a pastor. He and his wife, both in their second marriages, helped each other grow strong while returning to God. The Lord is all about redemption and reconciliation. And it sure helps to be surrounded by those with the desire to keep seeking Him…Like Lucy!
So, if by some chance you’re reading this and have strayed a little, it happens. Returning to God is exactly what He desires. And I bet your heart longs for it, too.
