In celebration of Lacey’s dreams, we’ll talk fashion! So it’s Fashion Week on my blog, and I’m excited to share design snippets from my newest book, Shadowed Doubt. Lacey Thompson, the main character in Shadowed Doubt, is a young, aspiring dress designer, and her desire to launch a career in the industry propels her actions in Shadowed Doubt. Submitting her dreams to God is the real challenge, and her design is not just on fashion.

Design Construction
I’ve always been fascinated with sewing, garment construction, and fabrics. I still am. I remember beginning sewing class in seventh grade when I made a gym bag, a slip-over blouse, and a pair of jams. Here in California, they were all the rage in the late 60s. The photo below is almost an exact replica of mine but with the hot pink and orange hibiscus and background fabric.

But Lacey excelled far beyond my seventh-grade sewing class. Lacey designed gowns, and her mother benefited. Although I did design my wedding gown, my dear mama tirelessly created it to perfection! That’s for another post…maybe.
If you read Shattered Guilt, Book One, you might remember Melanie Thompson’s love interest, Pastor Desmond Brooks. Well, she marries him in this book, and you guessed it. Lacey designed her wedding dress.
Melanie’s Wedding Gown

I know we all have different tastes, but this is the closest I could come to the design I imagined that Lacey designed for her mother—a champagne-colored gown dotted with crystals and a mermaid-type hem. All with a Ginger Roger’s Flair

Although I love this dress, I pictured my design with a higher neckline, wider straps, not spaghetti, and a shorter hemline.
Dreams
Although I didn’t know it when I was young, Fashion Design might have been one of my dreams. No matter now, God’s plans have worked out so perfectly for me. Nothing at all what I would have chosen, but nothing I would change. Even still, submitting my desires to Him is the key.

What were your dreams when you were young? I’d love to know!

The wedding gown pictured is gorgeous!
I love it too. I still have one daughter left…maybe she’ll pick it!
I tried to learn sewing. My teachers and grandmother gave up trying to teach me so I greatly admire anyone who has a talent for sewing.
Sounds like a good book with some valuable lessons to learn.
Thank you Kathleen. My mother was a seamstress, so I picked up some of her talent. But not enough!
